How to Install Dungeondraft Mods: A Complete Step-by-Step Guide | DnDungeon

Installing Dungeondraft mods is almost as easy as installing asset packs. Mods live in a similar folder and appear in the same top bar.

This guide covers the full process: finding your assets folder, placing mod files, enabling them in the editor, and what to do if something breaks.

What You Need

  • Dungeondraft installed and opened at least once (so it’s created its user data folder)
  • Your mod folders(s), which are folders containing a .ddmod file as well as other assets.
  • For some mods, you may need the _Lib library mod installed first as a dependency.

If your download came as a .zip, extract it. The mod file will be inside.


Step 1: Find or Set Your Dungeondraft Mods Folder

This is similar to how you select your your asset pack folder:

  1. Open Dungeondraft
  2. Click on Mods.
  3. Click Browse to select a folder path, or copy/follow the listed Mods Folder path into your file browser to find the current folder.

All mod folders go here.

The default paths are:

  • Linux: ~/.local/share/Dungeondraft/assets/
  • Windows: %APPDATA%/Dungeondraft/assets/
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Dungeondraft/assets/

But the Mods menu is generally more reliable, so use that path instead of hunting for the default.

Step 2: Drop in the Mod Files

Copy your mod folder into the Mods folder.

Your Mods folder structure should now look like this:

  • /Mods
    • /Example-Mod
      • Example-Mod.ddmod
      • [mod files]

Step 3: Restart Dungeondraft

Close and reopen Dungeondraft. The mods will be detected automatically.

Step 4: Enable Mods in the Assets Menu

  1. In Dungeondraft, click Mods in the top menu bar.
  2. Each mod has a checkbox. Check the ones you want active.
  3. Open your map!

How to Disable or Uninstall a Mod

To disable temporarily: Uncheck the mod in the Mods menu. The mod stays on disk but won’t load.

To uninstall permanently: Delete the mod folder from your Mods folder & restart Dungeondraft.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Mod doesn’t appear in the Assets menu after installing

  • Make sure the folder structure is right!
  • Check that it’s in the right folder; it should be in the same one listed under the Mods menu.
  • Restart Dungeondraft completely.

Dungeondraft crashed after installing a mod

  • Restart the application. If it opens normally, go to the Mods menu & uncheck the last mod you installed & see if it crashes again without the mod enabled.
  • If it won’t open at all, navigate to your Mods folder & move the mod file out (to your desktop, for example). See if it'll reboot.

Two mods conflict with each other

Some mods modify the same UI systems. Common conflicts include:

  • Two Select Tool extension mods
  • Two mods that add buttons to the same toolbar

To isolate the conflict, disable all mods, enable them one by one, and test after each. Once you find the pair that breaks things, check both mod pages on CartographyAssets for compatibility notes.

Mod worked in a previous version but not now

Dungeondraft updates can break mods. Check the mod’s page on CartographyAssets for an update. Most active mod authors push compatibility updates within a few weeks of a new Dungeondraft release.
